Matthew 26:14-50; 27:3-10; Luke 22:1-6;
John 13:21-31
Introduction
Judas Iscariot was the treasurer of the apostolic band.
For 30 pieces of silver, he betrayed Jesus with a kiss.
Explanation and Application
1. Failed to Accept
Judas failed to accept Jesus as He was and sought to make Jesus into what he wanted Him to be.
Three reasons why Judas failed to accept:
- Lack of patience
- Lack of insight and understanding
- Lack of trust
2. Failed to Amend
Four reasons why Judas was not transformed:
- Emotional trappings
- Insecurities
- Indiscipline
- Wrong ideas about God
A Final word
In spite of Judas’ weaknesses, failures, and sins, Jesus did not stop reaching out to him.

Reflection:
There can be transformation in me only if I work on my flaws.
Questions:
1. What do you see of yourself in Judas?
2. In which area of life are you lacking discipline? How would you improve?
3. What is the baggage you carry which must be surrendered to God?
4. As you consider some of your own flaws, what warnings and what encouragement do you take from the Judas story?
Activity:
Ask God to reveal some of the flaws in your character (this may be painful). One by one in prayer, turn these flaws over to God, asking his forgiveness. Ask for strength to overcome flaws.
Memory Verse:
“What you are about to do, do quickly.”
John 13:27b, NIV
